Projects
My main project at the moment is ‘Ensemble’ (Semantic Technologies for the Enhancement of Case Based Learning) though I am also continuing to work on a number of projects which began when I was working at Cambridge, and have several newer projects which extend the work of Ensemble.
The SPNECRE (Social and Professional Network for Early Career Researchers in Education) project has ended its main funded phase but many of the technology development and network activities are continuing.
More generally, my research activity falls into a number of broad areas, in each of which I have directed projects and published work.
- Science and technology education, particularly the teaching of complex and controversial issues and ‘troublesome knowledge’
- Technology enhanced learning, particularly in support of those areas where case based learning of some variety is used
- The relationships between learning and professional development, knowledge creation and innovative practice
- The role of learning communities and networks in businesses, public sector organisations, schools, higher education and professional development
- Support for knowledge management and research capacity building in education, social sciences and ‘civil society’ projects
